The Youth Leadership in Social Justice program works with high school students and teachers across Manitoba to raise awareness of social justice and human rights issues in our local, national and global communities and works to develop leadership skills in participating students. Through a series of activities, which includes three full day workshops between October and April, students and their teachers develop  projects within their community and work in collaboration with schools across the province.

We offer

  • Orientation and training sessions for teachers
  • Payment for substitutes
  • On going support for students and teachers as their project goes from idea to action to reflection
  • An awards night to celebrate student effort and achievement

To register for the program, fill out this form and send it in by October 12, 2012.

It is designed as an introductory less to the course with possible extension ideas included. This lesson is based around a role play activity and is aimed at getting students to realize the differences between large cultural groups as well as smaller cultural groups, such as a family.

It’s about money, money, money: more money, more problems?

Students are given a ‘job’ along with a typical salary associated with that job and create a budget that includes taxes, shelter, food, clothing, bills, communication costs, savings and entertainment. Students present their results to the class.

Grade 12 Social Studies

Cross Cultural Interactions and Human Rights

Students deepen their understanding of the term ‘culture’ and identify some aspects that make up a persons’ culture through exploring multiple books displaying people living their life around the world.
