Educational Context

Human Rights is a unifying concept in education linking various curricular areas which, when integrated, helps students to construct a holistic understanding of Human Rights and its role in society. Education which integrates human rights across the curriculum contributes to the creation of a culture of human rights. The following six areas related to human rights education form a context within which human rights may easily be integrated into various curricular areas.
Whatever level of involvement you chose to focus on, the human needs and the human stories are related to the social and biological environment we live in, the responsibilities we have to each other and to the environment, the human rights legislation that is in place to address that responsibility, the actions we take or don’t take, and the need to reflect on our actions. Like a spider web, touch a thread anywhere, and the whole web vibrates. What we do individually impacts locally and what we do locally, collectively impacts globally.
Each of these areas can be examined at different levels: individual, group, community, provincial, national and global.
