Youth Leadership in Social Justice
Introduction
The focus of this program is on challenging and encouraging youth to take up leadership roles within their own schools and communities to create on-going momentum towards active involvement in the promotion of human rights. In this manner, human rights education is supported both formally through the resources provided to the schools and indirectly by organizing and providing resources to student leaders that will generate additional momentum and activity across a range of schools.
Community partnerships play a significant role in stimulating ideas, providing information and experiences, and helping to promote the successes of the program. The youth work together over the course of the school year with community partners to create social change in developing a human rights related project. These successes undertaken are then highlighted in a year-end celebration and presentation ceremony.
